It's the bough we break to blow away. [Backdated to 4/2/16]
In spite of their conversations wanting to plan a weekend getaway for themselves, Marius jumps at the chance to get out of the city with Rat following the Founder's Day celebrations. Marius calls Courfeyrac to arrange for the care of their cats and mice; they hail a taxi, winding up at a hotel in the countryside: a quaint, luxurious establishment with an artistically designed pool arranged to blend in with the forest around the hotel, a charming restaurant with a lilac theme, and a cellar where they craft their own beer.
Marius finds them a room with an obscenely-sized bed and a balcony overlooking both the pool and the nature beyond. The atmosphere proves even more alluring with the mixed fragrances of newly blossoming flowers, the scent of wisteria particularly strong.
This vacation is entirely indulgent; they make their way to their room without even stopping in the restaurant. They barely drop their bags on the floor before they're falling into bed together, clothes and limbs tangling together in knots as they give into their passion. They pause only once to order room service.
Eventually, Marius falls asleep, though he doesn't remember the exact moment he does so. The next time he opens his eyes, the sun is filtering through the window, casting the room in a golden light. He stretches, his naked body shifting against the sheets. Marius' eyes open more fully and he glances down at his chest, which tightens as his gaze saunters down the rest of his body.
"Merde!" He swears in a soft voice as he flails and falls off the bed, sheets partly still entwined around him.

Carefully turning his back to Marius, Rat picks up the phone and puts on his most authoritative and imperious voice. He orders everything on the menu and assures the staff that they have, indeed, heard correctly and he will be having one of everything. His credit card will check out in good order and there's a tip to be had if they just stop asking questions.
When he turns back, hanging up the phone, Rat smiles.

He stretches a bit while he watches Rat order the food; he struggles not to laugh, and fails.
"I'm sure you just made a new best friend there," he teases as he turns on the tub, letting the water fill. He should be practical and shower, but then again, what is the point of vacation if not to be impractical and indulgent? He prefers baths to showers anyways.
"The shower's free," Marius says cheekily, sinking into the warmth of the water with a sigh. He reaches over for the shampoo and begins rubbing it into his long hair, delighting in the silky feel of it.

The tub really is huge.
Resolving to at least attempt to be good, Rat gives into the first level of temptation and swings his legs over to join Marius in the hot water. The heat makes him flush and he sinks in and sits next to Marius, head resting on his shoulder in a gently platonic gesture.
"I love you," he says, feeling the need to remind him.
no subject
He lets his legs unfurl in the vast space of the tub, his body fully unwinding. God, but the warm water and Rat's presence feels so damned good.
He turns and grins as Rat sinks in beside him, savoring the sight of the flush on his face. Marius leans in to press a kiss to his cheek.
"I love you too," Marius says, voice breathy with the weight of all the feeling he places behind the words. He leans his head against Rat's, bringing an arm to wrap around his shoulders.
"This was the best idea," he says, referring to the whole vacation.

Sighing happily, he extracts himself only long enough to lean backward in the water and wet his hair, fumbling for the discarded shampoo.
"I think I still know how to do a crown braid," he says, idly picking up a loose strange of Marius' hair. Floating freely around him, Rat gets the impression of molten lava.

"Here," he says, reaching for the shampoo and beginning to rub it into Rat's short hair. "Let me."
He massages the liquid into Rat's dark locks, letting warm water seep between the strands as he does so. This is such a perfect closeness; Marius knows he will never tire of it.
"That sounds lovely," Marius contemplates.

He doesn't talk about the way he doesn't think he deserves it or the simple fact that he should be too monstrous for someone like Marius. His lover knows those things already, even if Rat suppresses them.
"We'll see if I have enough hairpins and ties in my bag," he says, amused. "My hair is too short for it anyway."
no subject
Rat doesn't often vocalize his doubts, though Marius knows he thinks them, all the same. He leans in to press a gentle, assuring kiss first to Rat's temple and then to his cheek. Finally, he pulls him in for a soft, loving kiss to his lips. "It's a vulnerable situation," he admits. "Either of us could disappear at any moment. But this is real, I promise." He caresses Rat's face before nuzzling him, settling his face against that of his lover.
"I've never had the experience of wearing my hair up before," he ponders, smiling.

When Marius changes the subject more firmly to his hair, Rat nods and finger combs Marius' long, long hair. "It would have taken years to grow your hair this long. You'd have had to be patient."
no subject
He moves one hand to reach for Rat's, entwining their fingers together, as firm and sturdy as unspoken memory. "I admit, patience is not one of my strong suits," he says ruefully, giggling a bit. He sighs again and leans in as Rat combs through his hair.

With a clear show of regret, Rat wraps himself in one of the robes provided and ties it tightly. He rescues his boxers from off the floor and squirms in them. It's with clothes on, rather than off, that Rat finds himself uncomfortably aware of the difference in bodies.
He's barely tied the robe when he hears a knock to the door.
no subject
He watches Rat rise and wrap a robe around himself, leaving the tub, with a small, regretful noise. But then, he catches wind of what sounds like a cart, and so he, too, rises and follows after Rat in wrapping himself up in a robe.
Marius doesn't even bother with his own boxers when the knock comes. Shaking out his wet hair, he moves to answer it.
"Good morning," he says to the perplexed hotel employee behind the door, trying to smile cheerfully. "I do believe that is all of ours, thank you."

The poor man takes his gratuity and then begins loading up trays and trays of food onto the large table in their room. One by one, he stacks the lids so they can take in all the waffles, pancakes, sausages, bacon, potatoes, and omelets, with a continental platter of muffins and fruit on the side. He crowns it with a carafe of of coffee.
Still wearing his disarming smile, Rat thanks the man and waits for him to leave.

Marius whistles, glancing at the array of food splayed around them. His stomach grumbles and he has to focus to keep himself from drooling.
"Shall we then?" He asks, moving towards the coffee to pour them both a cup of it.
no subject
And now it's theirs.
Smiling, Rat settles into a chair and grabs the nearest plate.
"Time to feast like queens."
no subject
But ultimately, he cannot bring himself to feel too bad. This is theirs, after all.
"Yes," Marius agrees, grabbing his own plate and filling it with at least one of everything. He cannot help himself when he reaches the croissants, however. In minutes, his face is covered in chocolate.
"This is so good," he sighs, too content to give a damn about the crumbs on his chest.
no subject
Tipping his head, Rat notes that the staffer has, in his wisdom, provided them with boxes so they can wrap up their food and take it with them. Just as well. They can bring back the food and eat well for days. Or maybe just one. He is very hungry.
"You have a little chocolate..." he says, wiping at Marius' soft mouth.
no subject
He doesn't think about the boxes, or the wisdom behind their presence, caught up as he is in devouring whatever he can reach in front of him.
"Oh," Marius says, flushing and grinning sheepishly as Rat wipes at his mouth. "Thank you. I am rather defeating the point of that earlier bath, aren't I?"
no subject
They're not leaving this room and it's a good thing they ordered enough food to sustain them over the next two days.
no subject
"Now you just make me want to get dirty again," Marius breathes out, before pressing kisses against Rat's thumb. Guided on by the heat gathering in his belly, his thighs rub together almost of their own accord and Marius takes Rat's thumb into his mouth, beginning to suck.
They are never leaving this room this whole weekend.
no subject
"You are so much trouble," he says, as if he regrets for a single moment anything they've done.
no subject
The heat coils in his stomach as his own breath hitches around Rat's thumb in his mouth.
"Hmm," he hums around the thumb for a moment, before using his own tongue to pull it further into his mouth, sucking harder.
"I heard you like trouble," he says, voice ragged and breathless as he pulls away. He pulls Rat in by the front of his boxers for a kiss, fervored and hungry.
no subject
When Marius pulls him into a kiss, Rat lets out a soft whine, practically throwing himself at Marius to close the distance.
no subject
They haven't even finished breakfast yet, and they are already hungry for more.
Marius clasps Rat's face as he kisses him, pouring all the love and devotion as he possibly can into the kiss. His face and eyes both shine bright; his heart is fit to burst forth from his chest, even as the flesh between his legs seems to pulse with need.
"God, I love you," he exclaims when he pulls back briefly for air with a crooked smile. Quickly, he returns his attentions to kissing Rat, moving to trail his lips down his neck as he tugs at what little clothing his lover wears.
no subject
"I love you," he breathes out.
"Own me," he whispers.
