In some ways, Rat's determination reminds him of Eponine; surrounded by and enduring terrible circumstances, yet surviving, even if only by an inch. And Eponine ultimately died in the end, but that doesn't diminish the strength of her life.

Maybe it was foolish to do so, but Marius finds himself admiring Rat anyway.

He tilts his head at the sudden noise behind the door. He can't imagine Rat owning any kind of animal; not for companionship, at least.

"You have a cat?" He asks, glancing up at the other man.
