But even in his own mind, it sounds inadequate, and too much like pity, which he knows the other man wouldn't appreciate.
He follows Rat towards his building for a moment in silence; before they reach said building, he reaches for Rat's hand and squeezes. It's an odd feeling, to make such a gesture in such a small form. But it's all he can think to offer for comfort at the moment.
